Turkey calls Security Council to take action regarding Syrian "aggression"

New York, 3 October 2012
Excellency,
I would like to bring to your kind attention that the Syrian armed forces today shelled the town of Akcakale, situated at the Turkish-Syrian border, which resulted in the deaths of five Turkish civilians, all of whom were women and children, as well as a number of serious injuries.
This is an act of aggression by Syria against Turkey. It constitutes a flagrant violation of international law as wall as a breach of international peace and security.
Turkey calls for an immediate end to such unacceptable violations.
Turkey kindly requests from the Security Council to take necessary action to put an end to such acts of aggression and to ensure that Syria respects Turkey’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
I shall be grateful if the text of the present latter could be brought to the attention of the Security Council and be circulated as a document of the Council.
Please accept: Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
